One more for the road!
I ONLY
every single time i see you,
i hear my parents say,
it makes me wonder if sanya
will ever graduate.
it’s a feeling, that’s screaming
at the back of my head,
i hear it over and over.
i wanna hold you,
and love you,
in my arms and then,
i wanna need you,
because i need to
have you to get a job.
then i hear myself reply
you should’ve followed your checklist
all…those…years…
if only, i had the brain to graduate.
if only, i didn’t slack off and procrastinate,
if only, i wasn’t always late,
then i’ll be out, of cmc.
i sit here waiting, wishing, hoping,
that i’ll get this right,
because all i think about is
diploma, sablay and all those working nights,
a piece of paper, my parent’s keep on nagging me to get,
i hear it over and over.
i wanna hold you, and love you,
in my arms and then,
i wanna need you, because i need to
have you to get a decent paying job!
then i hear myself reply,
you should never have cut all those classes
foooor….seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeex.

written in 2008 to the tune of HANSON’S IF ONLY. I did finally get the much coveted diploma—-two years later. |
